Flow rate calculation
Flow rate calculation
(OP)
Hi,
I am designing a mold for composites manufacturing. After the curing of the resin, I have to cool the manufactured part at a rate of 2 °C/min from 400 °C to ambient temperature. I intend to use air cooling, if it proves to be sufficient. I have rectangular shaped cooling channels running along the edge. My aim is to optimize the cross-section of these channels.
My actual problem is as follows. I have a fan with these specifications:
- Flow rate: 500 m^3/h
- Power: 4 Hp
I want to predict whether it will satisfy my desired cooling rate. As a first approach, I put 13 cooling channels whose dimensions are 5 mm. X 10 mm. Also, the length of the channels are 260 mm.'s. With a simple calculation, the flow rate in the channels turns out to be 213 m/sec!!! Well, of course I have not included the flow resistence, which should be extremely high under these conditions.
So, how can I calculate the back pressure, or even better, the actual flow rate in these channels?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
