Drawing Question

Drawing Question

Drawing Question

(OP)
I am setting up custom drawings and have run into a problem.
When creating a drawing for SM parts, the bend lines are not there. So, I goto VIEW and unselect the hide all. My bend lines come back.

Ok, so my problem is, I went into my custom templates, made the change, then did a save-as and a save sheet format. Re-opened the template and the hide all is selected again.

Is there any way to get the hide all to be unselected in my templates?

RE: Drawing Question

This is actually controlled by Tangent Edge when you right click the view.  Many display options are controlable at Tools>Options>System Options>Display/Selection.

RE: Drawing Question

B Long,

Don't tell me no.  hehe  Sorry, I understand what your are talking about now, I think.

SolidWorks has both templates and sheet formats for drawings.  Sheet formats do not care any settings information at all.  They only carry a drawing title block (or whatever you want on your sheet format).  To make your changes stick on all new drawings, you have to save those settings in the drawing template.

That is what the save-as was for. I did the save-as, changed the file type to drawing template then hit ok.

RE: Drawing Question

Your SM part controls this I think. Try going to the properties of the Flat pattern and selected the 2 options at the top. I don't have SW here so I can't check it for you, but those options control what how your bends lines are seen. If that works, then you need to make a part template instead of a  Drawing template.

RE: Drawing Question

I guess I don't follow.
How do you go to the properties of the flat pattern?
Do you mean the feature properties?
Nothing there.
Do you mean the part properties?
Nothing there.
Do you mean the drawing properties?
Nothing there.

The only way I have found to do this is to goto VIEW and unselect it and then select AXIS.

It didn't do this before, the last time that I made a sheet metal drawin, the flat pattern had the bend lines on them.

RE: Drawing Question

Expanding on above post...SolidWorks has both templates (*.drwdot) and sheet formats (*.slddrt) for drawings.

You need to modify your *.drwdot files for any Setting's changes you want done in your Templates.

As stated above the sheet formats (*.slddrt) only carry a drawing title block information.

RE: Drawing Question

Ok, maybe we need clarification.  What do you mean when you say "bend lines".  Is this the line that appears on the sketch of the SM feature?  Is this the physical arc of the SM part?  Please explain.

RE: Drawing Question

When making a drawing for a sheet metal part that has to be bent. When creating the views of a flat pattern there is suposed to be a line indicating the bend layout line.

That is the line that I am talking about.

RE: Drawing Question

Does this only happen with the custom drawing templates you are making?
Have you created flat patterns with bend lines using other templates?

cheers

RE: Drawing Question

(OP)
It happens with the template drawings too.

RE: Drawing Question

Double check that the File Locations are set correctly and that you are saving the .drwot template to the same location.

Also check that the Tools > Options > System Options > Default Templates are set to match the File Locations.

cheers
