Composite Buckling

Composite Buckling

Composite Buckling

(OP)
Dear All,

I work i a design office for racing boats, I started looking in perform buckling analysis of composite panels. The panels are made of a honeycomb core and several layers of fibers.

after i set up the buckling analysis i lunch it and it gets through the all calculation with no warnings or errors. But when i try to display the results something goes really wrong, basically i get buckling modes between the connections of 2 panels connected at 90º.

I spoke to the NeiNastran people and they said that is a problem related to the of G in the honeycomb (as a reference to that i used an article published by MSC and referenced by SWComposite on this forum) and the difference in thickness between connected panels.

do you have any suggestions, or a work around?

Thanks

RE: Composite Buckling

Please describe in detail the connections between the panale.     Do the sandwich panels ramp down to solid laminate edgebands or is the core full depth to the edge of the panel?

The structure that i am analyzing is a boat. it has about 5 vertical panels through out the length of the hull and deck shell. all the panels are honeycomb core and several layers on fibers.

the angle btw the hull-deck panels and the verticals onces is 90º. all the panels share a common basic laminate but then have patches and local reinforcement with solid carbon. for instance one of the vertical has got 90 layer and joins to the other panels with 10.

i hoped i have been clear.
