growing file size

growing file size

growing file size

(OP)
I've seen this somewhere before but why does a file keep getting increasingly  larger in size when nothing is being done to justify it. I've been working on a part that is fairly simple (compared to what I normally work on) and added a core feature to it and then resaved it and the file shot from 12meg to over 30m in size. Funny thing is when I closed the file, in explorer it showed a 30+meg file and then reopened the file and did nothing but saved the file over again using the same file name and then went back to explorer and the file size was just over 14meg. I know I have a ton of these large files that could be downsized if I had only known opening them and resaving them would decrease the size. Question is, how to keep the file size from increasing like that?

RE: growing file size

You need SolidWorks 2007 SP2.2 or higher installed on your computer.  You also need a Microsoft hotfix for this issue.  Goto the SolidWorks website to find the correct hotfix for your system.

Once the hotfix and SP2.2 is installed, you will be able to restore files to their original sizes by opening them, running CNTL-Q and then saving.  However, on x64 systems, this will not work.  The x64 Hotfix does not restore original file sizes, but prevents the issue from getting worse (I believe).

"Question is, how to keep the file size from increasing like that?"

1) Run SolidWorks on a non-windows based computer. (wink)
2) Upgrade to SW2007-SP2.2 or SP3.

cheers

Matt,
Where on the website can the hotfix be found? I looked under support, downloads didn't see it there at all. I'll look again a little later, I'm in the middle of a hot job right now and need to get as much done as possible before tommorrow morning. Thanks for the help, it's appreciated.

RE: growing file size

Make sure you get the hot fix for your particular system.  There's several to choose from.
