Need chroma demodulator ic

Working on a new SD/HD-TV toy.  I need to split an NTSC composite video signal (yellow RCA cable out of most video components) into either component (YCbCr) or RGB video lines.  Much to my surprise, I'm having a difficult time finding an inexpensive single-chip solution (even circuit schematics are seemingly hard to come by).  Links, chips, suggestions welcome...

BTW, I've found a few chips by TI, but their functionality is significantly higher than what I really need (80-pin LPQFs with I2C interfaces, etc.).  I simply want a composite video signal stripped into YCbCr... (already have an SD/HD-capable chip to pass the signal into).

Texas Instruments TVP5150AM1PBS

2 composites or 1 S-video input (NTSC/SECAM)

YCbCr 8 bit 4:2:2 output

Does this help?

You snuck in while I was replying.

Yeah, the TI chip does MacroVision DRM detection and all sorts of other things.  Finding a good old-fashioned simple one function video chip these days isn't easy.

http://www.converters.tv/products/pal_to_pal_converter/444.html has a box that looks like it does what you want.  145 USD.  Maybe you can find out what they use.

http://www.analog.com/en/subCat/0,2879,760%255F793%255F0%255F%255F0%255F,00.html has several converters, but nothing with fewer than 40 pins.

Good luck!

I was hoping to find a chip that kept it all analog to cut down on the number of lines running between board sections/chips.  It seems all I've come across so far (the 5150 included) want to digitize it for you.  Looks like I'll have to go digital from the get-go.

Considering my few options and what I'd like this unit to support, I think I'm going to go with the TVP7000 for HD support and the TVP5146 for SD support, then wrap all of those output lines to a CPLD for combining the data.  A PIC should more than suffice for I2C control.  A lot more processing power than I had intended for this project, but I also have no interest in wasting much time searching for a more simple solution (money isn't that critical this time around, my time is more precious).  Even in small quantities (<25), total cost for the two chips, CPLD, and PIC should be under $30.

Thanks guys!

RE: Need chroma demodulator ic

20 years ago I used a Motorola full analog video decoder that was doing exactly what you are looking for, as the front end to a video digitizer.  I can't remember the part number.  Found nothing on google about a Motorola decoder.

I see something about the NEC uPD1830.  Also the TDA3330.  Just things that you can get from brokers though.  Is it for any volume?

Those NXP chips are monster BGAs meant for PCI cards and such... I'll think I'll stick with my 80/100-pin LPQFs ;)
