Aluminum Material - Stress Calculations

Aluminum Material - Stress Calculations

Aluminum Material - Stress Calculations

(OP)
I normally do stress calculations such as Shell Wall, End-plate and Tensile Stud calculations...on SS 304, 316 or reg Carbon Steel Material.

Like I mention prior I am new at this and now they are asking for Aluminum Material...basically to create a box which I would normally do out of CS.  They told me for Aluminum there are other requirements...I am not sure where to begin to look.

Please help if you can.

Thanks.

RE: Aluminum Material - Stress Calculations

Maybe you want to post this on the Mech Engineer's Forum.  This forum really is pipe stress related.  Or are you talking square [] pipe?

Thanks I will post it on the other Forum...thank you!

I am talking about regular pipe...I am not familiar with square pipe.

RE: Aluminum Material - Stress Calculations

You need a copy of the Aluminum Association Design Manual and  a copy of Aluminum Design book by R Ferry.  Or have an experienced aluminum engineer have a hack at it.  Experience with CS or SS does little to prepare you for aluminum design.  The forces and stresses are calculated similarly but the allowable stresses are much different.
