A354 bolts for steel connections

A354 bolts for steel connections

(OP)
Hi All,

I am trying to design a conneciton with 2" A354 Grade BC bolts. The reason being to allow for movement between two structures. I need to use a 2" bolt so I could use a longer slot to allow for movement. I have a 1 1/2" deflection in either direction so the slots have to be long enough to allow for the movement. The question is could A354 bolts be used for bolted connections? It is not very common that why I have doubt. Thanks.

RE: A354 bolts for steel connections

This grade of steel is often used in anchor rods with high stress.  Should work fine in steel/steel connections.

Sengr,

Hope you are not doing what I think your post suggests.  Slotted hole connections for movement joints don't pass the test of time.

Suggest you read the thread about the Pittsburg Convention Center failure started by JAE on 23 Feb 07.
