Determining percent of rise

Determining percent of rise

Determining percent of rise

(OP)
I need to know how to determine the rise per foot, or the percentage of rise if, for example, the run is 1000 feet, and the total rise is 20 feet.  I am trying to find the rise per foot and also maybe determine what the percentage of rise per foot will be.  That is, the actual rise and also the percentage.

We have a really nice construction claculator, but could not find the answer to this question in the instruction book.

Thanks

RE: Determining percent of rise

The answer is .02 or 2%.  You don't need a calculator on this one.

1. rise divided by run multiplied by 100 will give the
   percentage of rise/run.
2. to find the rise over a known length multiple the
distance required by the rise/run ratio

eg:  20ft rise over 1000ft run

     20/1000 x 100 = 2.00%

the rise over a 200ft distance is

     200ft x (2.00%/100) = 4.00ft

similarly a 4ft rise requires a distance of

     4.00ft / (2.00%/100) = 200ft
