Please help,
I am in the process of purchasing 3 number 750kw Chillers , what is the method or guideline for converting this chilling load to an electrical demand in either kW or kVA ,
Many Thanks,
Chris.

RE: converting chiller kw to electrical kva demand

If you know the efficiency, you can take the rating 750 kW and divide by the efficiency, say .8 and get the power rating of 937 kW. Or find what the running current is. That will give you a much better answer.

RE: converting chiller kw to electrical kva demand

Are the chillers rated to provide 750 KW of cooling?
One ton of AC =3.516 KW.  So your unit could be about 215 tons.  The motor that drives the unit will be smaller and will depend on the Coeficient of Performance (COP) of the unit.  I don't know of anyway to get that except from the vendors information.

And don't forget the air handler and cooling tower loads which won't be trivial.

COP depends a lot on the type of chiller and operating environment. A good water cooled chiller might have a COP somewhere around 6. Consult the manufacturer for real numbers. Then add ancillary loads as mentioned by Keith.
