Dell M90 Laptop

Dell M90 Laptop

(OP)
How does SW preform on a Dell M90. I am looking at the T7600 Core 2 Duo, 2 meg ram, 7200rpm HD, Quadro FX 2500M.
Woulh like to use as a desktop replacement using another monitor to be able to be mobile with it.

Thanks

RE: Dell M90 Laptop

You probably mean GB of RAM instead of MB.

Cadalyst.com may have done a review of laptops recently--if so, this was probably included and you can see benchmark results there.  The specs look good, depending on what you're really doing (size of assemblies, part complexity, etc.).

I find that one generally spends four times as much on a laptop for the same performance a desktop provides.  Laptops can have the same specs as desktops, but they still manage to perform noticeably slower than their respective desktop "equivalents"--hence a good idea to check real-world benchmarks whenever possible.

RE: Dell M90 Laptop

For the most part, I haven't had too many performance issues with my M90. I suspect, however, if you get into large, complex assemblies, you may see a hit.
One thing; if you end up getting one, make sure the video card driver is the correct one. Mine came with the wrong driver for SW. Gave me fits...
Also, I wrote a few reviews on mine if you want to check them out:

RE: Dell M90 Laptop

M90 with T7200, Quadro 2500 & 2 Gigs RAM works great for complex parts.  Haven't done large assemblies yet, but I feel sure that it will do very well.

RE: Dell M90 Laptop

I just recently purchased an M90.  This is a workhorse machine. It's a little pricy but well worth the performance it offers.  I also purchased a 23" 16x9 (landscape) monitor for my office desktop when I'm not mobile.  Although, I find myself not even bothering connecting it to an external monitor --the 17" LCD is sharp enough and I administer both PDMWorks and work on models constantly with this laptop ...well I don't advice putting this on your lap or anyone's lap --it is a mobile workstation and it's got some weight to it.   Enjoy!
