 Need RS-485 specification

I'm trying to find out the limitations of RS-485.  I need to get a hold of the spec or some equivilent source to find out the distance (ie 1000ft.) that a given data rate (ie 1MHz)can travel on a given wire gauge (ie 26awg).

Check http://www.bb-elec.com. B & B Electronics have RS-422 and RS-485 Application Note that contain alot of information on this subject.
