Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

(OP)
Hi,

If one part has a hole pattern, how do you transfer it to another part?  If I have two parts that I want to mate how do I get the hole pattern off of one and put on another?

Thanks in advance!

RE: Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

If the parts are to mate in an assembly, and you think that you won't use them separately, then the best option is to :-

create an assembly
put the part that has the holes in into the assembly
put the mating component into the assembly
Activate the mating component
create a hole on the mating surface, using the axis of the first hole in the pattern as the other reference
pattern the holes using by Reference
Save the assembly

Thanks Robertib!  Ill try that and get back to you.

Hi Robertib,

I tried it and it did not work.  I put both parts in assy and activeated the mating component, but I can not pick the axis of the part with the holes as referance.  Did I do somthing wrong?

Thank you for your time on this...

RE: Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

twoballcane,

not sure if you got it worked out yet, but anyway here goes.

You activate the part you want the pattern in.. a hole feature...say a bolt hole circle.

so what you want to do is do a extrude..

the part you are working with should say active part...whatever the name is

set your sketch plane ... and the normal stuff
use create from edge<loop> ..next till you have
the leader of the pattern selected
okay then complete the sketch part...you only need one hole
now set all the dashboard stuuf ... direction, depth etc

complete the feature...... you should have the hole <extruded fea> in your mating part...if not edit def.
once you have that correct then pattern... reference should be your choice...now you have them all

RE: Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

reference should be the default if you selected the leader of the pattern from the other part

cadcamguy,

How do you select the leader of the pattern from the other part?

Thanks

RE: Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

the leader of the pattern is the first hole that you made in copy from part.. the one that you patterned.

now you're saying a hole pattern in your first message
now is that a bunch of different holes or a feature that was patterned?.

but if it's a pattern and you don't remember which one was first expand out the model and see which one is first...go from there.

RE: Transfering hole pattern from one part to another

Tobalcane,

I work 2nd shift and not real sure what my companys policy is on forums etc. Your best to get me around noon central time-US. I answered last night from work, i don't think there will be any thing said but.. I need to play it safe until I find out.

But on the leader of the pattern, provided it is a real proe patterned feature. Have your model tree show features in assembly then expand out the pattern and it will be the first listed.. if it's not a true pattern then you will have to select all the edges in sketch.. not a big deal if it's say less than 10...but if it's hundreds then you want a different approach.
