Customizing a Drawing Format
Customizing a Drawing Format
(OP)
Our company usually only uses B and D size formats. Now we've decided that it would be useful to have C size as well. So I went into the \Program files\Solidworks\data to retrieve a generic C format. I made changes to have it link perameters that are set up in our parts properties. I also added the company logo. It looks great. I saved the format and the template. When I make a new drawing with this format, the logo is gone. When I reload the format the logo is in the preview window but disappears once you reload it. It also doesn't print the logo. What's up? Okay, so that's my first question. I also need to know how to do a sheet 2. Do I just modify the sheet 1 and then save it as sheet 2? Could it be that easy? Any tips you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Is it just the logo which is missing? None of the other changes?
Are you sure you added the logo while in the Edit Sheet Format mode?

2) Sht 2 will be created same as the others, saved as a unique name.

RE: Customizing a Drawing Format
I have found when adding more sheets in a multi sheet format (sheet2, sheet3, sheet4 etc) to sheet1 I need a duplicate set of templates. One set saved with a file extension of .drwdot and a second set with a file extension of .slddrt
e.g. A4.drwdot and A4.slddrt
The .drwdot template is used for the first sheet outline (sheet1) and the .slddrt template I use for adding sheet 2 onwards.
Not sure why it was done but they changed files extensions for the second and subsequent sheet around 2003 or 2004.

I’m sure your right. It was just after our IT dept had upgraded the software that I had a problem. On reflection the SLDDRT files may well have been lost as a result of the upgrade. I must have failed to save/store them to temporary directory before upgrading.

My file locations are OK. I redirect them after an upgrade. We run off a network. Things are running like clockwork. Thanks.
