Greek Myth & Tunnelling

Greek Myth & Tunnelling

Greek Myth & Tunnelling

(OP)
I've heard that in some countries, there is the unspoken rule that females are not allowed to be inside the unfinished tunnels. I heard it originated from a Greek Myth.  Does anyone know the story and if what countries are like that? Thx

RE: Greek Myth & Tunnelling

If its a greek myth then I guess Greece would be a good start.

I've not heard of it in Southern African or North American mining

RE: Greek Myth & Tunnelling

I too have never heard of this misogynistic superstition in North America.

Perhaps it is related to the legend of the Labyrinth?  Didn't Theseus have to save a "damsel in distress" in the Labyrinth (which could be considered "tunnels").  It's probably a stretch though.

Cheers,

RE: Greek Myth & Tunnelling

Tunneling is dirty, dangerous work.
Females perhaps created the myth themselves.

RE: Greek Myth & Tunnelling

Women "workers" are not allowed underground in Indonesia.  Technical Experts for short duration, I am led to believe are permitted.  However, as sorry as I am say, one would have to weigh the 'hassle' factor.
