We search a shaping machine for small module gears cutting (from EU, second hand). On all sites, i find only big machines. I need a "TIP".

RE: try to buy a shaping machine

Can your small part be made by EDM manufacturing
rather than hobbed or shaped?
What kind of accuracies do you need.
Small is relative.  You might want to check out
spline machine tooling.

Hello dimjim
The part is a group of gears, one can be hobbed but one can not, or a pinion that can not be hobbed. Also we speak about gears under "module 1", and precisions 6, 7, 8 DIN (11, 10, 9 AGMA). I believe EDM is not a solution.

RE: try to buy a shaping machine

General rules about tool sizes:

Small machines cannot make big parts.

Big machines in decent shape can make small parts.

RE: try to buy a shaping machine

Why must the pinion be shaped?
Like Mike says, why can't a large
machine hob your small pinion?

RE: try to buy a shaping machine

I take it that you need to gear cut a cluster or are cutting up to a shoulder, a hobber in this case won't be useful.
There are plenty of small Fellows High Speed No 7s on the US ebay site at the moment. Just go to www.ebay.com and do a search in Business & Industrial.

RE: try to buy a shaping machine

Mitshubishi and Koëpfer have hob machines for small modules. The accurancy in Mitshubishi one can be DIN 5. I don´t know how muach can it be in Koëpfer one.

gearcutter, this is the case, you are right. The shoulder is the problem. I will try the adress you send me. Also Javier72, i must see "mitsubishi" and "koepfer".
