S7 interface (interface) ???

I have a 6ES7 972-0CA22-0XA0 RS232-MPI/DP programming lead for use between my laptop and the Siemens S7 processor.  The laptop Serial output is 9-pin male, as is the programming lead RS232.  What link-up do I require between my laptop and the programming lead?  ie. should I use a crossover connection 2-3, 3-2, 5-5 or a straight through connection 2-2, 3-3, 5-5  Thanks for your assistance.   Mal

RE: S7 interface (interface) ???

Not that familiar with S7 but I always use a RJ45 network cable and RJ45 to DB9 connectors.  Then cross 2 and 3 on the pins and the others are straight.  Then you can have what ever combination you want.

RJ45 cable straight
RJ45 to DB9 connector  4 ea
  2 ea cross pins 2 and 3
  2 ea straight pins
then get a good combination of gender changes and your set.

Most times you do not have to buy anyones special RS232 cable.

Of course it always seems like the VFD interfaces are special.  You just want to shoot these people.

Thanks Guys - you have been most helpful.  I have ordered the appropriate lead through 123Automation Limited
