Usage of proper piping material for ozone system

Usage of proper piping material for ozone system

Usage of proper piping material for ozone system

When the application is ozone generator system, I have found there are many material that can be used to distribute ozone.  Several material I found are HDPE pipes, PTFE (teflon pipes), EPDM rubber, and so forth and they have different prices.  Does anyone have any experience and recommendations what type of material to use?  Our constraint here is cost, but we would desire to choose a material that has a reasonable lifespan.  Any commetns?

RE: Usage of proper piping material for ozone system

You can use gray PVC and Stainless 316 I have made venturi tubes out of gray PVC to replace the Mazzei injectors that were breaking. The line from the machine was Viton and all our seals were silicon or Viton..

Cheers

I don't know anything but the people that do.

Hello, I really like to hear from others who has experience with with ozone distribution systems. The question here is the choice of material for the feeder tubes for ozone.  In our application, we have originally selected HDPE, but as we are building the system in Japan, HDPE feeder tubing does not exist in small sizes like 5/8" dia.  There are of course other type of material, such as PTFE (Teflon tubes) and EDPM (or EPDM).  When I looked up reference on the internet, they all show excellent properties (Rating of A, vs. B's or C's) to be used against ozone, but they are very different in prices.  For PVC piping, the material is not rated as well as HDPE or PTFE...so I like to know what other people have used before, and what their experiences are.

So the question here is, for the feeder tube which exists in smaller sizes than what is available in HDPE type material, what are other acceptable, but "relatively equivalent option" that is available?

Stainless 316 would be my choice. I've used plastic piping on a few installations but it still gets oxidised eventually and becomes brittle, so  I guess you need to ask if the cost of regular replacement of plastic is cheaper than installing longer lasting stainless.
