is there a way to show the leading zero when the cell is fomated for a number (eg 00425 entered in a cell and excel returns it as 425).  I don't want to make it a text with a '00425.

RE: show leading zero in excel

Custom format.  Format code 00000

Your description needs to be a bit clearer.

If the cell is formatted as Number ... General,
then if you enter 00425, it will be entered as and will also be displayed as 425

If you want to enter 425, or 00425, and have it be displayed as 00425, then use Custom Number Format 00000
