ANSI Refinery Specs for Paint Color
ANSI Refinery Specs for Paint Color
(OP)
I have a client that has asked if the colors of paint we are proposing to use to coat new piping agrees with ANSI Refinery Specs. I have axhausted all resource and can not find a document that recommends that a specific color paint be used to designate the fluid the piping is carrying. From my experience each refinery is has different color schemes, however, most of the time firewater is red, fuel gas/natural gas is yellow, plant air/instrument air is blue. Thanks for any insight.

Refer to ANSI A13.1 - Scheme for the Identification of Piping Systems.
The above standard is intended to establish a common system in identifying hazardous materials conveyed in pipe systems.

To JPellin, I've seen many times circulating cooling water headers and distributing lines painted blue.
