Fees for Structural Indusrial Design

Fees for Structural Indusrial Design

Fees for Structural Indusrial Design

(OP)
Hello all,

I am looking at job designing the structure for an small material handling plant expansion.  What range of fees are others seeing for this type of work (Percent of total construction, Per tons of steel??)....Thanks.

RE: Fees for Structural Indusrial Design

These fees can range all of the board depending on the complexity and type of the structure and equipment. It may also be affected by how severe the seismic zone. A small footprint may also would affect the fee.

Please be more descriptive: how many stories, SF of addition, seismic zone, slab on grade or supported floor, type of foundations (spread or deep foundations), steel frame or concrete frame, alot (or minimal) of supported equipment, mezzanine, etc.

9 stories, ~90' tall x 20' x 50', estimated TOTAL construction cost including machinery 2.5 million, seismic zone C, not sure about foundation yet, haven't seen geotech, steel frame, equipment:  derrick screen, cyclone, vibrating feeder, screen bowl, sump.  This is stricly the structural design no mechanical.  Thank. I appreciate all your input.

RE: Fees for Structural Indusrial Design

I would not recommend estimating this based upon percent of construction. You can convert your estimate later to percent of construction if you would like. In eccense this will protect you from increased scope.

I would, however, estimate it based upon the required hours for various tasks. Another way to look at it is to estimate the number of sheets required but then add in additional costs for complexities, meetings, coordination, shop drawings and field inspection. Be sure to define with your client what services are required. Base your proposal upon the same foundation system as the existing building and so note that in your proposal to protect yourself.

Good Luck!
