Modeling permanent set in thin overhanging beam
Modeling permanent set in thin overhanging beam
(OP)
This is a pretty vague post, because I have not yet started modeling but in the process of building the model. Am interested in modeling permanent set, residual stress, in a very thin leaf spring (complex shape).
What all properties would I need for the material? Am thinking of modeling 10 cycles of loading to start with. The normal force will go from 0 to N in a cyclical pattern for 10 times. And plot deflection to force, von mises stress to force plots and see the permamnent set.
Any inputs before I start modeling would be helpful
Thanks.

RE: Modeling permanent set in thin overhanging beam
Look at the following commands:
MP
TB
TBDATA
You will need to define both the elastic and plastic properties. Once the material has passed the intersection of the two curves (proportional limit) Ansys will interpolate along the plastic portion of your stress-strain curve.
Also, I would advise performing this analysis in a series of static loadsteps rather than a transient type analysis since intertial effects of the spring are probably negligible anyway.
