good thermal insulator

I am looking for good thermal insulator material that can be machined. Flatness, parallelism, squareness are very important.
The 2 x 1.5 x 0.5 inch block will be subjected to 200 lbs compression force distributed uniformly. The max temperature it can see, is 240°C.
Any recommendations highly appreciated.

RE: good thermal insulator

Here is a very good machinable product, Marinite, that I"ve used for years as a  rigidized insulating board.

Check out the physical properties of Marinite and if you need better insulation please post your requirements as thee are others, more expensive, such as rigidized ceramic foams

Thanks for the info unclesyd. I just joined the group that designed first prototype of the instrument.  The instrument has this hot, kind off, stamping die that warms up the entire assembly. I am looking for something that would separate the die from the rest of the instrument so any material is better that what we have now (metal - metal contact).
Your Marinite looks promising.  Do you know Macor? I found some info on the Web.

RE: good thermal insulator

I've used both Macor and Marinite and for applications such as yours but I would go with the Marinite in your case.

One of our biggest uses for Marinite is a thermal isolator, such as yours, on our polymer processing equipment. It is used on Carver preses in the lab for the same purpose.

Thanks again .
