Drafting multiple body weldments

Drafting multiple body weldments

Drafting multiple body weldments

(OP)

I have a large tooling fixture for which I am prepping a drawing package.  The fixture is a single catpart with multiple bodies and multiple sublevels of bodies.

We build our models up from individual bodies that are weld prepped, copied or patterned (if necessary), then boolean added to a body which is the weldment, and then machined as a weldment.

My problem is that I need weld callouts on members that are boolean added and thus have no part edges where the welds are.  The surfaces of the added bodies are coplanar and the edge disappears from the drawing view.  Anyone have a solution for me?

RE: Drafting multiple body weldments

Could you extract some wireframe from the solid.
Enter GSD
create a new geometric set.
Select the body
CTRL+F
Workbench = Topology
Type = Edge
Look: = From Current Selection
Search and Select
wait a moment
Extract

Regards,
Derek

D-

That doesn't work for me.  The topology of the surface of the added bodies does not contain a break, so I can not select the top level and have that work for me.  Additionally, the wireframe for one weldment is almost 1000 elements.  Finally, with the wireframe, my hidden lines show up as solid lines.

I need another method, sorry man.

RE: Drafting multiple body weldments

Try this- Instead of only selecting the top-level weldment body, also select the individual bodies that have the butted joints. If you do that, the edges you need should show up in your drawing view

Good luck!

Another fellow doing parallel work at my company suggested the exact same thing this morning; works like a charm.  Simple and fast.

Thanks for the help all.
