Saving features as a part
Saving features as a part
(OP)
Hi, I would like to save a few steps (example having a couple of extrudes as a new part) of a part model as a new part. How do I do that ? Thanks in advance.
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

RE: Saving features as a part
When I create model, I would like to use some of the steps (in feature manager) that I use to create the model to be a separate part. I won't use this newly created part again and again, so I don;t think I need to put it in my library. I, many times end up with situations, why not take a few steps and create the models and use it as a cutter in a different part, for instance. I have seen this feature in SDRC-IDEAS. One option would be to make a copy of the same part and delete the steps that I don't want. But, this may not be possible in some situations. Pl. let me know if there is a way accomplish the requirement. My VAR told me that the option is not available, I am double checking with SW users.
RE: Saving features as a part
Create the library feature, then when creating the new part, drop the library feature on a face.
Then you can ....
1) Edit the sketch location to place the feature when you wish.
2) Have the placement location options coded into the libray feature. This would require multiple library featuers of the same, one for x-y dimensioning on a rectangular face, another could have an automatic concentic relationship added, etc...
Another option which might be easier for many to create is a "sketch block".
If you have the part open with the desired feature, you can also drag-n-drop the feature between parts.
