Changing Point of Origin within CatiaV5

Changing Point of Origin within CatiaV5

Changing Point of Origin within CatiaV5

(OP)
Anyone know if there is a way to change a part's point of origin within an assembly after the part has been created.  I know you have the option of selecting the point or using the default when the new part is created within an assy.

Thanks

RE: Changing Point of Origin within CatiaV5

You can move the Part in the Assembly (compass, snap, constraint...), but you cannot change the origin of the part in the part.

The origin in the part is defined by the 3 main plane and you should not try to modify this.

You can play around with the 'Absolute Axis' but not with the origin of the part. sorry.

Yes you can.

I allways do this because I use some STEP parts from our customer. When I load a part alone, it's origin is at the origin of the assembly (im my case the aircraft origin). I take the compass and I place it at a convenient face I want to be my new part origin. Right click on the compass red dot and choose EDIT. Be sure your main body is active. Put all positions and angles at 0. Hit Apply. Now I will have the new origin of my part.

I don't know if this will apply to your case, but when you have a dumb solid you want to change the origin, this is the method.

Another way is to dbl click the part and right click the sketch in the tree and change sketch support.

Cheers

I don't know anything but the people that do.

RE: Changing Point of Origin within CatiaV5

Hora :

Unless I am wrong your method will move the main body to the origin of the part. It will not move the origin of the part.

As you said this will work fine with a dumb solid. It is another story with a non-dumb solid. In fact you might have as many stories as you have solids...

Thundair :

With this method you will move one sketch and maybe everything that is directly or indirectly link with it.

Viking012 :

You have to be more specific: do you want to move a part in an Assembly, move a solid in a part, or something else ?

Eric,

Correct, this works fine in with dumb solids. And about the part origin, you are right, it is frosen in space.

But I thought Vicking has created the part in assembly mode and now he only wants to reposition the part function of the origin of the 3 datum planes.

Have a nice day!
