Slug flow - Flash at the inlet of a valve

Slug flow - Flash at the inlet of a valve

Slug flow - Flash at the inlet of a valve

(OP)
Dear all,

I have to size a line (one phase-liquid) which discharges from a feed flash drum and is the feed line to an ATM Fractionator. The drum is mounted 3m above grade and the inlet nozzle to the fractionator is 27m above grade. There is a control valve on the line as well.
2 problems have occurred here:
1) The liquid flashes at the inlet of the control valve. This will cause corrosion across the control valve.
2) A slug flow is formed at the inlet line to the fractionator (downstream of valve). The line is already sized as 6”. A smaller line will avoid slug flow but this would result in a high erosional velocity.

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Slug flow - Flash at the inlet of a valve

Dear Mecklenburgh.
See the thread124-170224. It will answer your question regarding flashing at the control valve.
Best wishes
