Add Cust. Prts to Tool Box

Add Cust. Prts to Tool Box

(OP)
Good Afternoon

We would like to add our own set of custom aluminum profiles into the tool box. I would like the parts to behave like the structural members that are included with the solid works tool box. That is, when the part is draged into the assembly, the configuration browser alows you to input a length. I do not want to pick a configuration, as our extrusions are cut to length and would require thousands of configurations. If I only had 12 possible lengths i could work with a set of predefined configurations. Is this possible or am i just missing an obvious option that needs to be checked off?

If there is another way to achive this functionality I would consider that also.

Thanks so much,

Roger

RE: Add Cust. Prts to Tool Box

You could use Weldments. The profiles follow whatever length of line is sketched.

cheers

I prefer not to use weldments as the intersection point is predefined. This does not suit how my assemblies are constructed.

I am using SW 2005, does anyone know if this is possible in newer versions?

RE: Add Cust. Prts to Tool Box

I don't have Toolbox to experiment with, but you may be able to make a copy of a file in C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data\SteelLib, then rename and modify it to suit.

cheers
