Carbon Dioxide Refrigeration Systems

Carbon Dioxide Refrigeration Systems

Carbon Dioxide Refrigeration Systems

(OP)
I would like to know more about these systems.  I know the enviromental advantages, but have very little knowledge of the system itself. Can CO2 work in a normal refrigeration system as long as the compressor is capable of reaching the high condensing pressure of CO2? Does the condensor tubes or plates need to be of some special alloy (aluminum)? What is the evaporation temp. (saturation temp.) of CO2? I realize that the use of CO2 was used in the early 50's but was abandoned due to its inefficiency, however, through technological advances its coming back. I already have some information on cascade mechanical refrigeration systems using CO2 and Ammonia. If anyone has any information on this subject and would be kind enough to share it with me I would appriciate it. THANKS
