new to solid edge

new to solid edge

new to solid edge

(OP)
hello,

i've just downloaded solid edge 2d to tryout and maybe buy when usefull.

first, because i'm familiar to an other program that is far away out of time, i have some beginners questions i like to ask.

1. when i draw a line and want to draw a second one parallel to the first on a specific distance. how to do this?
2. when i want to draw a circle in a part at a specific distance. from a point or lines.
3. i understand that there are add ins where can i find these   and how to download if possible

thanks upfront
foggy

RE: new to solid edge

1.  Go to tools intelisketch and set options.  This will allow you to draw it roughly parallel and 'snap' it into place.  Or View, Toolbars, Relationships.  This will give you the buttons to apply parallel relationship after you've drawn the line.

2.  Make sure the dimension is driving not driven.  It's a little icon with a padlock up at the ribbon bar.  I think there may be settings that affect this but I can't remember what.  The other option is to use construction geometry that you later delete.

General word of warning Solid Edge is really a 3D cad tool so the 2D environment is really set up to be fed from a model.  That's not to say you can't do 2D in it and in fact UGS have made efforts to improve the 2D capabilities but sometimes it's obvious that this wasn't its original intent.  I occasionally do 2D but in my opinion SE comes into it's own when using the 3D model to generate 2D drawings.

RE: new to solid edge

1) In view, show the '2D model' and select that tab at the bottom. Later, you will go back to the working sheet to create views with '2D model views'

2) For your circle at a certain distance, create it approx. where you want it then place a dimension (smart dimension or distance between) and change the value

3) For offseting lines, there is an 'offset' command or you can draw the line, place a dimension and change the value (just like for the circle)

4) For the add-ins, I'm not sure.
