2-D drawing sheet format

2-D drawing sheet format

Hi, I have 2-D drawing sheet format in dxf format (from SDRC IDEAS). It imports very well, but, I am not sure how to make it as my default sheet format. I tried to go through the help for sheet formating, but I don't see the help for what I want to do, yet. Please let me know how to make a sheet format default.Thanks.

RE: 2-D drawing sheet format

Open a new drawing
RMB click on the sheet and select Edit Sheet Format
Import or create the sheet layout you need
RMB click on the sheet and select Edit Sheet
File > Save sheet format

cheers

RE: 2-D drawing sheet format

You probably want to create drawing templates for each sheet format.  Then you select the drawing template that corresponds to the format that you want.  Generally if there are document settings that you wish to have as your default, set them up in a template and specify the template when creating the file.  There are templates for parts, drawings and assemblies.

Thanks for the replies. I am still having some difficulty in understanding CorbLimey suggestion. If I want to edit an already available sheet format, this procedure works very well. But, I am missing the idea of how to import after I get into "edit sheet format". If I import a dxf drawing in edit sheet format mode, I loose "edit sheet" option, when I want to exit "edit sheet format". And even if I save it as a sheet format, it doesn;t seem to work as a formatted sheet when I open it next time. I am sure, I am missing a step,  I will try again, but want to keep you posted where i am at. thanks.

RE: 2-D drawing sheet format

Open the dxf (in SolidWorks or DEGeditor or ACAD or ???) then copy and paste into the Edit sheet format mode.

cheers

RE: 2-D drawing sheet format

Sripri,
In the beginning we changed something on our templates at least 4 times a year. Our companys name changed 3 times in the 4 years. I would suggest not putting in the dxf file. I created ours with dimensions hidden after several weeks of working with AutoCAD formats.
There is not that much to create, anyway.
