I finally had time to install SW07 today. What a nightmare!!
The way our pc's are so protected, some software do not like to do a typ installation. This company has standard processes for installation of software.
I found I had to shut down ALL processes to make it work and remove ALL traces of SW06. It took three installs to make it work! uuuugh! It wouldn't let me install SP2.2 for whatever reason, only SP1.1.
I decided to forgo the Admin Image route at this company. Servers change and programs move between them.
Tomorrow I work on making it look at the network license ... if I can get into the server.
By the time I'm up to speed with 07, 08 will be out!

It sounds like there's a fine line between procedure and bureaucracy. You only have about six more months before the release of '08. Better get moving...

Yes, a VERY fine line.
I'm moving as quick as our server guys are.

Your idea for a separate folder is probably a good one. Typically, I install EV releases in a different location entirely, then I update my "official" installation after the final SP release comes out.

My VAR is GoEngineer, so we were exposed to product activation early on as well. I have worked with activated licenses to a small degree, and I have not observed any problems either. However, from a CAD administration standpoint, life is much easier for me with network licenses, especially since we have far more users than licenses.

Feb 20, 2007 Bulletin: SolidWorks 2007 licensing changes
Beginning with SolidWorks 2007 SP3, all customers in North America and Japan with standalone–licenses will begin using activation–based product licensing. Customers in certain portions of Europe, Asia–Pacific, Japan, Latin America and North America are already using activation–based licensing.
From Service Pack 3 – applying SPs or new installations will require the user to activate their license on that computer before use. The activation process is much faster than the previous registration process, now requiring only three simple steps. After activation, the license can later be transferred to a different computer.
COSMOS standalone users will now use the same licensing process but must must now obtain a COSMOS serial number PRIOR to installation of a new license or service pack. Users of COSMOS functionality inside SolidWorks Office Premium are covered by the Premium licensing. (To obtain a COSMOS serial number, please visit: www.solidworks.com/COSMOS–SN)
Activation licensing will be introduced to customers in the remaining regions of the world in SolidWorks 2007 SP4.
Please visit: the product activation site for more information.
