I am mechanical engineer working on a the design of a metal dry-pin track for a off road vehicle. Does anyone know of any good technical resources for this kind of design project?

RE: Track Link Design for a Tracked Off Road Vehicle

Ballanch,

There was some interesting work done by Michigan Technological University’s Keweenaw Research Center (www.mtukrc.org) on Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite Track along with the US Army TACOM. There is an overview of the original project at www.dtic.mil/dpatitle3/almmc.htm.

The following specifications may be helpful as well:
·    A A 52494 : RUBBER STOCK, UNVULCANIZED: FOR TRACK SHOES, PADS, AND PIN BUSHINGS (METRIC)
·    A A 59473 : CURTAIN, TRACK, AND SUSPENSION SYSTEM, BERTH (NAVAL SHIPBOARD)
·    MIL PRF 11891: TRACK SHOE SETS, TRACK SHOE ASSEMBLIES, TRACK SHOE PADS AND TRACK SHOE BUSHINGS, VEHICULAR – ELASTOMERIZED
·    MIL T 45301: TREAD RUBBER, SOLID RUBBER TIRE FOR TRACK LAYING VEHICLES
·    QPL 11891: TRACK SHOE ASSEMBLIES, TRACK SHOE SETS, TRACK SHOE PADS, AND TRACK SHOE BUSHINGS, VEHICULAR, ELASTOMERIZED

I hope this information is helpful to you. Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Best regards,

Matthew Ian Loew
