'Walkthrough' views and inserting a camera

'Walkthrough' views and inserting a camera

(OP)
Hi, I've been using Solidworks recently to draw the inside layout of a building and the normal rotating camera in Solidworks doesn't give a very good 'first person' view from different positions.

Is there a way to insert different 'camera' positions so I can quickly flick between them, and is it possible to do a moving camera so I can show a 'walkthrough' of the model?

Thanks!

RE: 'Walkthrough' views and inserting a camera

Yes--see if you can get a hold of the "What's New in SolidWorks 2006" PDF document.  It shows how you can attach a camera to a sled and move the sled (a part you make for this purpose--doesn't really need any solid geometry) through your assembly in the animation.  I recommend using a path such as a spline to mount the sled so you have something to govern your movement for the animation.  Break the sled movements into small chunks for best results.

Also, refer to the "What's New in SolidWorks 2007" PDF document to see enhancements to cameras and Animator along these same lines.  (You don't actually need a sled in 2007 to get your cameras to move.)  You'll find coverage on how to move cameras, switch camera views, etc.:

That's great, thanks a lot!

In 2007 you don't need the sled anymore.  You can have the camera follow a 3D sketch through your model.  It makes it a little more hassle free, especially going up and down stairways.
