Steam rates in steam stripping of (lighter) hydrocarbons?

Steam rates in steam stripping of (lighter) hydrocarbons?

Steam rates in steam stripping of (lighter) hydrocarbons?

(OP)
I believe there is a rule of thumb for the flow of open steam in an application where steam is used to strip off the lighter/lower-boiling hydrocarbons from a multicomponent hydrocarbon mix (e.g., prefractionation prior to desulfurization in a coking plant).  However, I can't recall what that rule of thumb might be, apart from a very vague recollection of something along the lines of ~0.5 lb steam/gallon liquid feed--which memory may very well be way off.  Can someone please refresh my memory--preferably with a source for the rule of thumb?  Thanks.

RE: Steam rates in steam stripping of (lighter) hydrocarbons?

You can find data at Watkins, R.N. Petroleum Refinery Distillation.

LaSalle1940,

For side strippers your number is too high. For proper stripper towers, it may be close, depending on exact service.
