Purging a block which has no name in Acad14

Purging a block which has no name in Acad14

Purging a block which has no name in Acad14

(OP)
I've been running into several drawings lately, containing a block with no name and the block "_filled".  The filled block relates to arrowheads for dimensioning, but is somehow related to the block named " ".  i can erase everything in the drawing to the point where the dblist command finds no entities in the drawing, yet I can't purge these two blocks.  I've tried wblocking the entities I want to keep and it didnt work.  When I copy/paste even 1 entity by picking it, these two blocks also get copy/pasted.  I can purge the dwg in acad2k and it purges a block " " (as stated in the purging command list of entities purged).  Then the "_filled" block can be purged.  I'd rather not purge the dwg's in A2k because of the proxy objects.  I'm trying to keep the dwg's a native to A14 as possible, mainly beause most of our customers still use that version.  Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

RE: Purging a block which has no name in Acad14

What we've run across, some of our customers have custom blocks that they use as ticks or arrows in dimension styles.  As long as the dim styles are set for those blocks, they won't purge, and transfer from one drawing to another with a cut and paste, prolonging the problem.  One solution, if this is the problem, reset the dimension style so the arrowheads are a typical block, then purge blocks. Or purge out the dim style, then the subsequent blocks.  Hope this helps.

RE: Purging a block which has no name in Acad14

Try identifing the block using "filtering".  If you use "filter" with any command such as "erase", you can designate many things such as "blocks".  When you use this, it displays a current list of blocks in the drawing.  Check it out.

RE: Purging a block which has no name in Acad14

I tried using the filter command, but the block with no name isn't listed in the filter dialog box (when you choose from a list of blocks).  The "_filled" block appears, but not the one with no name.

RE: Purging a block which has no name in Acad14

This "feature" is a bug in the AutoCAD 2000 "SaveAsR14" function.  When you are in 2000 (any version of 2000, as far as I know) and you do a SaveAsR14, it creates a No Name block.
DotSoft has a program that will rename it to a real block name, so it can be purged.  The program is called BlankBlk.DVB, and you can find it at

Thanks for the help.  The program worked great.  There's also an "ARX" program that does the same.  Now I just have to incorperate it into acad.lsp to automatically run when autocad is started.  Thanks again.
