Turning off preselection highlighting

Turning off preselection highlighting

Turning off preselection highlighting

(OP)
Is there any way to make it so Solid edge only highlights parts when you activate the quick pick or actually select them?  The preselection function ruins the view of the part in pictures and makes it hard to see what I'm trying to select when its behind a very large component.

Thanks,
Eric

RE: Turning off preselection highlighting

Hi,

you are talking about an open ASM, right?

Then, no you can't switch it off by just setting an option. The only way
is to hide any parts that are not needed at the moment. The
other option to mark a part 'as not selectable' in the occurrence
properties for that part is not recommended. The downside is
that this part then is only selectable in the Edgebar. When
in edit mode none of the part's elements can be selected.

BTW: when not in an asm it's also not possible to switch
that off. The only way is (if ever) to roll back and thus
'hiding' unwanted features. You may, however, suppress
features (ignore the errors) but this is seldom a feasible
option.

RE: Turning off preselection highlighting

Eric,
Does your highlighting show parts shaded ?
I would suggest turning this option off.
To do so go to
Tools > Options > View and uncheck the 'Use shading on faces and features' option.
This will make things much clearer, and speed up selection in large assemblies.
You could also try the 'Fast Locate' options for parts and assemblies on the Assembly tab of Tools > Options.

Thank you both for replying.  Turning off the shading makes it easier for actually modeling zoomed in.

My work around for presenting things to people without the highlighting was to turn on measure distance and filter the selection criteria to only pick space points.  It works OK.
