Old ASTM A-265
Old ASTM A-265
(OP)
I have a very old column ( from the sixties) in which some shells and one head are in A-265.
The remaining is in A-285 Gr. C
Cladis S.S. over the whole colomn (inside)
design code is ASME VIII div.1.
Column is at 3.5 bag and 375 Celsius
I have to re-assess this column (chapter 4 and 5 of API 597)
My question is what is this A-265 ??
It looks like an obsolete ASTM material !!
How does it compares with A 285 Gr. C ??
What is its allowable stress say at 200, 300 , 370 degree Celsius.
Any idea, tips...Thanks

Your data seems to be inconsistent. You mentioned that the whole column is SS clad, and yet you mentioned that some portion is A265 and some are A 285 Gr. C
And why are you reassessing the column to API 597? API 597 is a withdrawn spec. for Steel Venturi Gate Valves

Sorry guys, I mean API-579 ( FFS for checking metal loss..since we have also corrosion under insulation).
You are right I Believe this A-265 is for the clad..
