Polymer Thin films

Polymer Thin films

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on creating thin films of polymer without using spin coating?

Many thanks

Mike Young

RE: Polymer Thin films

What is your definition of thin?

The blown film process works well.

Cory

Sorry, I was very vague.

When i mean thin films I am talking about films that are less than 50 microns thick. The thinner the better!

Many thanks

Mike Young

RE: Polymer Thin films

As CoryPad mentioned you can blow films but you need a decent quantity of polymer for that (i.e. kilos at the very least). You can also cast films from a solution of the polymer in a solvent. In addition you can buy films of many common polymers. If you want a nylon film you can make it be interfacial reaction of the two monomer solutions (i.e. "nylon rope trick").

RE: Polymer Thin films

Just to stress how vague your question is, try a paint brush or spray gun.
