Normally when I need to select any pump I go to the catalouges for the mnufacturers and suppliers, then I choose the best pump depending on the operating point (Head and Flow), then from the pump curves I can find the efficiency of the pump at the required operating point.

what is the best formulla to calculate the efficiency of the pump without looking to the efficiency curve, mainly I'm interested to calculate the efficiency of the Submersible pump and the vertical turbine pumps (Water application) .

The basic formula is pump output divided by pump input.

There is no simple way, that is why the eff curves are published.  This is especially the case when you are dealing with many pump stages.

I don't know of a better way.  All the pumps (subs & Trubines) have different eff.  Maybe if you explained more as to what you ave trying to do we could provide a better answer.  Other than that, most pump manufactuers has software taht allows you to input tdh and head and it will pick the best pump for you.

If you have an existing installation you can calculate the overall pump / motor efficiency after measuring flow / head / power input.
But what are you trying to do? -  predict pump hydraulic efficiency based on anticipated flow and head for a given application.

Predicting pump theoretical maximum efficiency is probably not too good an idea, however there are some relationships that can be drawn between a pump's theoretical maximum efficiency and the pump's specific speed.
