ANSYS won't run

ANSYS won't run

ANSYS won't run

(OP)
Hi,
I get the following error when trying to open ANSYS (not ANSYS workbench):

*** ERROR
Unable to open file file.lock for WRITE.
Check directory and file permissions.

Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: ANSYS won't run

Two things:

1) Check to see if it prompts you for a Y or N answer in the output window.  If it does just enter yes and you should be on your way.  Whenever Ansys shutdowns abnormally it creates a *.lock file.

2) If that doesn't work can you simply delete the *.lock file which is in the working directory you're starting the program from?  Or have you tried launching Ansys with a different working directory?

Thanks. It turned out that the problem was that the working directory was set to a network drive that I did not have write access to and ANSYS couldn't write a lock file if it wanted to.
