How to Copy Assembly and components

How to Copy Assembly and components

How to Copy Assembly and components

(OP)
In Solid Works how can one create a copy of an existing
assembly and its components so that they are completely
separate from each other?

RE: How to Copy Assembly and components

I just copied all the files from one folder into another one...

But, I am guessing you are not looking for that solution...

when I simply copied the assembly the parts in the new assembly were still connected to the old assembly.

RE: How to Copy Assembly and components

By doing that you run the risk of losing the assocativty of the components in the assembly. If you had in-contexted relationships in that assembly they would be lost by now. SW Explorer is the proper method

RE: How to Copy Assembly and components

Yes, that's how I copied them from one folder to another... pack and go with SW explorer... sorry forgot to mention that...

RE: How to Copy Assembly and components

I pack and go inside of SW since I already have it open.  Open the top-level assembly and pack and go.
