Surge Capacitors at Generator Terminals

Surge Capacitors at Generator Terminals

Surge Capacitors at Generator Terminals

(OP)
Would you recommended surge capacitors at the generator terminals or at the LV side of the power step up transformer or both? In this arrangement we have the generator circuit breaker between the generator and the transformer.

RE: Surge Capacitors at Generator Terminals

Surge diverters are normally connected across the generator terminals with an isolator switch (which is off when meggering the generator winding)

RE: Surge Capacitors at Generator Terminals

To protect the generator, the surge protection needs to be as close the generator as possible.
