The comment stream is the best part of the article.

I couldn't help chuckling a little at what appeared in my browser title bar:

"The Scotsman - Humble vegetable that could revlutionise everything from fishing to battle"

That was parsnips, Swedes, and turnips.  I wonder what the Scot's norhtern neighbors think of that.

Good to see folks thinking way outside the box.

Brilliant.

I was wonderin' when they'd come up with a better fly rod.  I was really getting sick of that carbon-fibre one sitting in the back of my closet taking up space....eco-friendly hunting........brilliant.

This discovery will have impact in the traditional carton of Bugs Bunny instead of a carrot he will have to eat an environmental friendly carrot made fly rod.

Maybe Walt Disney will sponsor that

Having followed the link and read the article and the poster's comments, I was sorely dissapointed to see that posting was now closed.

Never mind. In the words of the great Scots Bard, Robert (Rabbie) Burns (January 25, 1759 – July 21, 1796):

"Nicky nacky nick nock, nicky nacky noo, nicky nacky nick nock, carrots are guid fer yew" (must be said with a Scots accent, of course)

Sorry, I should have said, this was composed in the early years of his literary career when work wasn't so easy to come by and root vegetables were a valuable source of nourishment only.
