Aluminum NV-5059

Aluminum NV-5059

Aluminum NV-5059

(OP)
Hi.

I am into designing the hull of 25m 40knot aluminum vessel. Industry standard is to use NV/EN/AA 5083 for plating due to good strength and corrosion resistance.
For this project we are considering to use NV-5059, branded as Corus Alustar, which have an almost 30% higher yield strength than 5083 and is claimed to have better corrosion resistance, with the same weldability to a 10-20% higher price.

Anyone have practical experience from this alloy? All information I have is very promising but is all related to some sort of marketing/sales company. Is there no downsides? (The price difference is considered negliable in this case.)

T.
