Unbelivable waste

Unbelivable waste

Unbelivable waste

(OP)
.
I know this has been discussed here before, perhaps many times, but I have to vent my anger ...

Assy1  is 1,733 kb. Now, use assy1 and make (higher) assy2 - assy2 contains ONLY assy1 and nothing else - after FIRST save assy2 is 3,193 kb. If I do NOTHING and just re-save assy2 I get 6,407 kb !!!

I know that even "empty" model/assy contains certain info so I could not expect to have size of an "empty" model to be zero or something like that. But this is a bad joke played by SW -  6407/1733 = 3.7 times the size of the assy1 file !!!

Now on the assy2 I add LPattern Number of Instances 2 and pattern that assy1 - assy2 size becomes 8,866 kb !!!

8866/1733 = 5.1 times the assy1 - just because assy1 is on assy2 and ONE linear pattern !!! And Pattern is suppose to be an efficient way of "copying" items.

Now make assy3 which uses just assy2 - after SECOND save the file size is 11,234 !!! That's 6.48 times of assy1 !!!

If on assy3 you use LPattern of assy2 (just 2 instances) the assy3 size becomes 16,138 kb !!!

Does anybody know if Solid Works folks have any shares in companies that produce hard disks ??

RE: Unbelivable waste

This might actually be a Windows issue--see posts done by CorBlimeyLimey and others to this effect with a Microsoft (bungled) hotfix issued.  The first hotfix was hosed (according to Microsoft), but I believe they issued another hotfix that works on most machines.  This is supposed to correct the file-size issue in current SPs of SW 2007.
