what is "cage type insulation"? can anyone give or linke me to usefull links and sources?

Is this "insulation" for personnel protection, not heat conservation? If it is, then its most likely expanded metal mesh with some framing to offset it from the pipe/vessel. Only applied in areas where personnel could contact it such as within 8' of the ground or 8' above a platform and perhaps 4' horizontally. It serves to keep folks from burning themselves by accidentally touching a hot pipe or vessel.
