Spring back rates for 316 SS

Spring back rates for 316 SS

Does anyone have any data on spring back rates for 316 SS?  I am trying to bend plates (approx 8" x 5" x 0.25") and in order to size the die correctly, I would like to factor in the spring back rate.

RE: Spring back rates for 316 SS

You need to know the bend radius, and condition of the material. Using the information in ASM Handbook, Vol 14,

        Bend radii, degree springback in a 90 degree bend

304 ss
           1t           2 degrees
           6t           4 degrees
           20t         15 degrees

Also, springback is approximately proportional to the equation below;

(0.2YS + UTS)/2.

That will do.  Thanks!
