Import a part into a configuaration of another part

Import a part into a configuaration of another part

(OP)
Good mornign, I have a model of a part, XCT-030, which is just a piece of straight tube.  I have a second part, CT-80, which is the same as the XCT-030, but it is bent.  I would like to be able to import the CT-80 model into the XCT-030 file, but I would like it to be in a configuration, so that when I use the XCT-030 in an assembly, the XCT-030 is what appears in the asssemblies BOM table, and the CT-80 is what apppears in to assembly model.  Can this be done?  I am being a least vaguely clear?  Thank you in advance for any assistance.

RE: Import a part into a configuaration of another part

Not really clear.  You want to show the model of one part in the assembly/drawings, but have the BOM be filled with the part number, name, etc of the other part?  There's no need to import the part itself into a configuration.  Just add configuration-specific custom properties that reflect what you want shown in the BOM.

RE: Import a part into a configuaration of another part

You might be able to do that by hiding the first solid body and showing the bent second solid body in your new configuration.  In the other configurations, make sure your bent solid body is hidden and the regular body is shown.

When creating your configurations, I think there are options to hide/show parts in assemblies (or maybe even bodies in a part file) as well as suppress/unsuppress mates within an assembly.  Try the option as necessary to get your configuration to save which solid bodies are shown/hidden.

Reason trumps all.  And awe transcends reason.

RE: Import a part into a configuaration of another part

Create two configs and separate features for each configuration then suppress them as needed. you could even create a folder in the tree of the "Flat" features...and the "Formed" features that make up your bent tubing.

Thanks Jason, got it working and it appears to do just what I want it to do.
