Honeycomb Modeling
Honeycomb Modeling
(OP)
Hello All,
I have analyzed sandwich panels before using PCOMP. Now I am thinking of modeling the core using 3D elements and the face sheet using shell elements. I understand that I would have to use multi point constraints for the transition in elements between the facesheet and the core. Is this a simple task in Patran and how do i do it? Thanks in advance!!

RE: Honeycomb Modeling
If your going to bound the edges of your honeycomb plate with edge extrusions, you can simplify the matter by calculating the bending stiffness of the channel section adn equating it to a thickness of a shell element which covers the edge perimeter of the plate.
No MPC's or anyhting that would tend to distort you model.
You would then look for face skin values (V.M and min Prin) and core shears (L and W directions). Do some sanity checks with your model to ensure that it is correct.
