Hole wizard

Hole wizard

Hole wizard

(OP)
I am a solid works newbie and was told that there was an easy way transfer (top down) holes from existing details for fastening.  I was originally told that when "positioning" a hole in the wizard that the cursor would "pick up" the reference geometry hole center if you looked straight down the barrel of reference hole.  Its not working like this for me.  The only way that I know how to do this is create a sketch and convert the reference hole geometry, then create a point, then position my hole in the hole wizard using this point; that is kind of how you have to do it in Inventor, by creating a sketch and transferring reference geometry. This is driving me nuts, and I know that its something stupid that I am doing wrong.

RE: Hole wizard

Wen you hover the cursor over the edge of the hole, the quadrant points and centre point should appear. Is this not happening with your install?

Which SW version?

cheers

I am temporarily running the 2006 90day personal edition

RE: Hole wizard

You can also turn on the Temporary Axis or show the HW point sketch, then you will be able to snap to either.

cheers

RE: Hole wizard

Iumcad… SW will do exactly what you want to.

Inferred relations are one of the best things about SW. Why you are not able to do it I don’t know, it has always worked for me. Does anyone know of an option setting that turns off Inferred relations?

Maybe you are trying to infer a hole that’s UNDER the part you are sketching on? SW can do that but you have to have some options set properly.

RE: Hole wizard

Tools > Options > System Options > Display/Selection and in the Selection of hidden edges section, select the applicable option.

RE: Hole wizard

What you want to do is enable snaps and "Snap to model geometry".  If snapping is not enabled, then Automatic Relations is off also.

Thanks! I finally got it.  Turned out to be a setting, and I was not "normal to" the plane so it would not snap correctly.  Know if I could figure out why its not showing the threads, I have the cosmetic thread option checked but now thread display.

RE: Hole wizard

In the Feature Manager, RMB the Annotations folder and select [bView Annotations[/b]

In the main toolbar, View > All Annotations

cheers
